As Morocco's largest city Casablanca is considered the economic capital of Morocco. The Port of Casablanca is one of the largest artificial ports in the world and the largest port of North Africa. It is also the primary naval base for the Royal Moroccan Navy. The city itself offers a shop window for some of the best architecture of the 1920's. Many Art-Deco buildings are located on Mohammed V boulevard and in the old Mers Sultan European quarter.

"In contrast, Casablanca has remained at the cutting edge of modern architecture with, in particular, the Twin centre, which houses offices and a shopping centre that is several storeys high."

The lively, cosmopolitan city tells the history of the twentieth in its traditional inner city, and on the perimeter is a modern neighbourhood with an art nouveau style, featuring Art Deco houses, the minaret of the great Hassan II mosque, the residential area on its Anfa hill, and the glass buildings and twin towers of its business area.
