There are four main styles of accommodation in Ibiza; mainstream hotels used by the tour operators, rural hotels, villas and the recent addition of 'city' hotels.
There are more than 80,000 beds on the island split over 550 establishments, and with the rural hotel market evolving fast and the increase in the number of five-star properties from three to five, the island's accommodation is diversifying and increasing in standard.
The days when tourists had little choice are long gone. The big chains have arrived and laid their claim on the island, creating large holiday resort clusters in places like San Antonio and Playa d'en Bossa.
Family-style establishments, though, have also cropped up and more exclusive hotels and resorts, often more secluded as well, are also on the island to cater for all tastes. Ibiza, obviously, has luxury hotels such as Jardines de Palerm (Los), and(the latter set breath-takingly on an impressive cliff). But there are also small, warm, welcoming places hidden away on the island or in the romantic old part of the capital, which was named a heritage site by Unesco in 1999. Canopy beds and fantastic views are on offer at La Torre del Canónigo. And there are lovely places that allow you to appreciate the stunning beauty of the island as well. Now, people come all year round, and some prefer the quiet winters to the hectic partying of the summer crowds. In spite of Ibiza's famed nightlife, the island is also gaining a name for its natural beauty, often found away from the coast.
If you are looking for a cheaper option, there are campsites, popular with young adventurers, who arrive with their backpacks and their desire to have a ball and make the best of their time, normally between May and September. Some sites manage to stay open all year round. You can also find cheaper accommodation in hostels and guest houses, some of which are located in places as well known as the Port of Ibiza, which has gained a reputation for amazing summer nights.
