Paris is the capital and most populous city of France. Situated on the Seine River, in the north of the country, it is at the heart of the Île-de-France region

There is archaeological evidence that the site of Paris has been occupied by man since between 9800 and 7500 BC. In 987, under King Hugh Capet, it became the capital of France.

Paris was once the largest city in the western world, and a prosperous trading centre. It may not be the largest city anymore, but it does remain an important centre of fashion, science, and the arts. It is the most romantic city in the world, and it is also known as the City of Light (la Ville Lumière) and the Capital of Fashion.

A large part of Paris is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You will find numerous iconic landmarks, such as the world's most visited tourist site, the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe, the Notre-Dame Cathedral, the Louvre Museum (the most visited art museum in the world), and the Moulin Rouge.

These landmarks help to make Paris the most popular tourist destination in the world, with 45 million tourists visiting each year.

As you’d expect from the French capital city, it is home to the highest number of Michelin-starred restaurants in Europe.
